Starting Point
This logo was originally created for my first website but it also has allowed me to learn how to do animation on After Effects.

Next Step
I transferred the Illustrator file into After Effects, making sure I kept all of the layers separate so I could animate each layer individually.
Layers
The first layer I animated was the base ellipse. I animated this by setting the starting scale to 0, which made the shape disappear around the midpoint of the ellipse. This then allowed me to increase the ellipse to make it look like it was growing. I used the stopwatch feature on the scale in transform to increase the size of the ellipse over a period of time. I set the 100% keyframe at the frame/time I wanted and After Effects automatically made the shape grow from 0% to 100% over this time period. The next step for me was to make the bounce effect for the ellipse. I used keyframes to set the ellipse scale size to 120%, then slowly reduced it frame-by-frame until it was at 80%, then After Effects increased it back to its normal percentage, as the figure below shows.
Ellipse keyframes
I then wanted to animate the stroke to appear around the edge of the ellipse. I did this by using a linear wipe effect that is in After Effects.
I set the angle of the wipe and the keyframe time where the shape will be 100% visible, then set the keyframe where I wanted the stroke to start appearing from, and the After Effects used the effect and the keyframes to make the stroke appear.
Masks
The last area I needed to animate was the TGSH by using masks and the stroke effect. My first step was to use the pen tool to create the masks of the text. I placed points over the text and then applied the stroke effect to the masks, and then made sure that the stroke covered the original text.
Penned TGSH
Once all the text was covered by the stroke, I then set the starting keyframe and the finishing keyframe for when the text is to be revealed. I also had to change the paint style of the stroke to "reveal original image" which lets the text appear.
Below is the completed animated logo.
Review
Having completed the task I wasn't very fond of the bounce effect that I had created and used on the ellipse so i decided to re-animate it in a different way. This was where the ellipse started on the screen and the rest appeared on it.
Overall the original logo animation is nice and carries the motion for each element.
I also animated this logo in a slightly different way. I started with the ellipse already in the scene. I used a mask and pen tool to write TGSH, and then I applied the stroke effect like I did in the previous animation. The last step was to use linear wipe to make the stroke appear around the ellipse to complete the animation.
